HOW TO CALCULATE LINEAR FEET
Pricing is based primarily on the number of linear feet of shelves and vertical supports in a shelving unit. The calculation of linear feet is the same for both shelves and supports.
The number of linear feet of shelves or vertical supports in a unit is the sum of the lengths, expressed in feet. To do this, add the shelf lengths or vertical support lengths expressed in inches, and then divide that number by 12.
During the design process, dimensions of shelves or vertical supports are expressed in inches.
However, when calculating prices for a quote, the number of linear feet, rather than linear inches, is used primarily because smaller numbers are easier for both HouseWerks and our customers to use. We could price our shelving by the inch, but with big shelving units in the hundreds or thousands of inches, it doesn't make it easier for anyone.
EXAMPLE OF LINEAR FEET CALCULATIONS
For example, let's consider a shelving unit with seven 88" long shelves and three vertical supports that are 91" long.
The number of linear feet of shelves is 7 X 88" = 616"/12 = 51.3 linear feet.
The number of linear feet of vertical supports is 3 X 91" = 273"/12 = 22.75 linear feet.
