WOOD SELECTION FOR SHELVES -
TWO SHELVING GRADES AVAILABLE
HouseWerks offers two grades of custom-built hardwood shelving. Different grades of shelving are made for specific wood finishes to be applied. Both shelving grades are made from the same thickness hardwood lumber (0.75”) and have the same weight-bearing capacity. The two grades of HouseWerks shelving are as follows:
- Paint-Grade Shelving
- Most economical grade of shelving to buy.
- Wood and veneers are not matched because of the type of finish that will be applied.
- Intended for shelving to which a colored, opaque finish will be applied.
- Can only be ordered Unfinished or with a Colored Lacquer Finish (Black or White).
- Lacquer-Grade/Stain-Grade Shelving
- High quality, matched hardwood veneers,
- Choice of six hardwoods: birch, maple, red oak, white oak, cherry, and walnut,
- Intended for clear or translucent finishes, i.e., ones in which the grain of the wood can be seen,
- Choice of four wood finishes (unfinished, clear lacquer, colored lacquer, and stain & lacquer), and
- Lacquer finishes are available in five sheens:
Glossy - highly reflective of light, very shiny (80% reflectance),
Semi-Glossy - moderately reflective of light, somewhat shiny (60% reflectance),
Satin - less reflective of light, slightly shiny(40% reflectance),
Matte - much less reflective of light, very little shininess (20% reflectance), and
Flat - barely reflective of light, not shiny at all (10% reflectance).
PLEASE NOTE !!
Colored lacquer finishes can be ordered with Lacquer-Grade/Stain-Grade Shelving, but there is no need to pay extra for a more expensive veneer when it will be covered with an opaque, pigmented finish in which the grain of the wood veneer will not be seen. If your shelves are to have a Colored Lacquer Finish, save some money and order Paint-Grade Shelves.
