WOOD FINISH OPTIONS HouseWerks offers four finishing options for our shelves and vertical supports. Please note that the finish selected for the shelves and the vertical supports do not have to be the same. The wood finishes offered are listed below, along with a description and price for shelves and vertical supports:   Unfinished  -  No Charge The shelves are left as built, with no surface treatment other than a light sanding. Paint-grade shelving may have wood filler applied to fill in some of the surface blemishes. Please note that these shelves are not necessarily ready to paint. Part of the finishing process is filling in any surface flaws found and sanding to a "paint ready condition." These shelves are not offered as a product to which a clear or transparent coating, such as lacquer, polyurethane, or one of the many oils (Tung Oil, Danish Oil, or Teak Oil) is appropriate. Because wood fillers may have been used and the shelves may be built with different species of wood, we suggest that you apply only opaque coatings, like paint, pigmented lacquers, or pigmented polyurethanes. The shelving you receive may be suitable for transparent coatings, but there is no guarantee. If you want to apply a clear or transparent coating to your shelving unit, we suggest that you order one of the six Lacquer Grade Woods. All you need is the time, patience, appropriate work space, materials, and equipment, all of which are available from your local home center. Price for Shelves  -  $6.95/linear foot Price for Vertical Supports  -  $4.95/linear foot Price for Kickboards  -  $4.95/square foot   Colored Lacquer Finishes There are two colors from which to choose:  Black and White. These finishes consist of:   one coat of a wood sealer,   two coats of either Black Primer or White Primer,   two coats of either Black Lacquer or White Lacquer, with your choice of a Glossy Sheen or a Satin Sheen, and   one coat of clear lacquer in the sheen of your choice. A shelving unit that has been finished in Black Lacquer is very impressive. A quite striking use of Black Lacquer is on the vertical supports with a clear finish on light-colored shelves like Birch or Maple. Because of the depth of the wood grain, a two-tone finish is achieved giving the shelves a black and figured gray look. MinWax Oil-Based Wood Stains Price for Shelves  -  $9.95/linear foot Price for Vertical Supports  -  $6.95/linear foot Price for Kickboards  -  $6.95/square foot CAVEATS FOR ORDERING STAINED OR COLORED LACQUER FINISHES If you order shelving with a stained and clear lacquer finish or colored lacquer finish, the following conditions apply to the order:   A 45% non-refundable materials deposit is required   There is no guarantee that any of the colored finishes will appear as you expect or will exactly match any samples or color charts. Our colors will be a close match, but exact matches are rare, if attainable at all. We do our best to match the color and shade you request.   Shelving that has colored lacquer or stain applied cannot be returned because of your dissatisfaction with the color or shade of the stain or colored lacquer applied.   HouseWerks' Risk-Free Ordering Guarantee is negated when shelving is ordered with a stained finish or a colored lacquer finish. This guarantee states that you can return your shelving for any reason within the first 14 days after delivery. However, HouseWerks' Forever Guarantee, is a lifetime warranty for quality of materials and workmanship, is given for all shelving units sold, regardless of what options are selected.
